Legal Help Manager – Leading Legal 500 Firm

We are representing highly reputable Legal 500 firm seeking an experienced Legal Help Manager to join our distinguished team. This is an exceptional opportunity to take on a pivotal role within the Civil Billing Department, leading a dedicated team and ensuring compliance with all Legal Help (LH) funding requirements.

This role is offered on a fully remote basis, providing flexibility while working with a highly regarded law firm known for its expertise and commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Claims Approval – Review and approve all Legal Help claims prepared by fee-earners, ensuring correct ledger rates, funding evidence, and compliance before submission.
• File Management & Billing – Run dormant file reports to guarantee that all LH files are billed promptly upon conclusion and ensure EC claims are submitted within the required timeframe.
• Team Leadership – Oversee a sub-division within the Civil Billing Department, currently managing at least one team member, with the potential to recruit further as the department expands.
• Strategic Reporting – Liaise with the Head of Civil Billing regarding targets, strategy, and departmental improvements.
• Operational Development – Currently, family Legal Help claims are billed by a single specialist, while non-family claims are handled by fee-earners. The Legal Help Manager will look to recruit additional staff to take over non-family Legal Help billing, allowing fee-earners to focus on casework.
• Process Improvement & Training – Work closely with the Head of Civil Billing to develop training programmes and implement strategies that maximise profitability while reducing claim rejections, appeals, and lost costs.
• Advisory Role – Act as the primary point of contact for Legal Help queries from fee-earners across civil and family teams (approximately 115 fee-earners).

Requirements:

• Extensive experience in Legal Help, EC claims, and funding regulations is essential.
• Proven management or supervisory experience within a similar role is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills, with an ability to identify and implement process efficiencies.
• A proactive approach to leadership, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining compliance and financial accuracy.
